Case study

We stopped at a tank station before Siem Reap. The chauffeurs must have know the people there, a numerous family with two tiny kids playing in the ditch while the rest of the family was building a nondescript something next to the gas pump, in the ditch, because they started chatting to each other while they ALL looked bored, and that's a look you only permit yourself with people you know, love and care about, and wish you wouldn't have to see them that much, so basically your family.
The Europeans, because all the tourists were Europeans, that I saw the attendance sheet, were descending from the bus to stretch their legs. We transferred from the role of transported units to a more active situation but basically we all assumed one the following two roles: 1. photograph the scene in the ditch or 2. offer advice on how to build the something, whatever it is, in the ditch.
